Returning to the fight to keep Eastbourne’s walk-in centre open

. ..Eastbourne's walk-in centre

The consultation into the closure of Eastbourne’s walk-in centre was reopened by the CCG on the 4th August and will run until the 14th September. Before the start of lockdown we decided that we needed to cease collecting petition signatures  against the closure of Eastbourne’s walk-in centre.  It was clear that the public were becoming increasignly concerned about contact with other people and so was our group.  The CCG paused their consultation into the closure of the centre once lockdown started. It was felt it was going to be impossible to run the consultation properly.  Although we argue that this is still impossible we now have to send a strong messsage to the CCG.   Our message is that walk-in centres are an important part of our NHS.

We are now going to become a regular presence in the town protesting against the closure of this centre.  Campaigners  will respect social distancing and  urge anyone joining us to wear a mask.  We will meet outside Eastbourne station every Thursday lunchtime from 12pm to 2pm.

Please complete the CCGs consultation and sign our petition against the closure so we can start to show the strength of public opinion against the closure.  If you can join us for protests that too would be really helpful.

Our walk-in centre provides a vital service enabling anyone who feels unwell access to a GP.  They can see a GP even if their own GP cannot offer them an appointment.  The service also provides for visitors to the town.  As Eastbourne relies on visitor numbers it makes perfect sense to provide them with a healthcae facility.  The walk-in centre will take pressure off our already over-burdened A&E unit and its town centre location is of huge importance.

We do not know yet, how primary care services are going to change over coming years.  But. we do know its likely we will see our access to GP appointments reduced.  Please do consider how you can help us campaign  aganist this policy decision.
